Vorige week genoten wij, tuinclub 'The Leprechauns', van ons jaarlijks tweedaags tuinreisje naar het zuiden van ons land, de weergoden waren ons goed gezind.
Ik vind het altijd een moeilijke combinatie: rondkijken en genieten, luisteren, praten en dan ook nog eens foto's maken. Toch heb ik een aantal aardige foto's van de bezochte tuinen die een redelijk goed beeld geven van de Hollandse tuin. Met name de vele vormsnoei in de eerste en laatste tuin, doen me denken aan het eind van de 17de eeuw, de tijd van William en Mary, maar dan wel met een moderne inslag.
Last week week our gardenclub the Leprechauns and I enjoyed our annual two days garden trip to the south of our country and we were so lucky to have such a beautiful sunny weather.
A difficult combination for me: watching and enjoying, listening, talking and then even picture taking. Yet I have a number of pretty pictures of the gardens visited, which give a reasonable reflection of the Dutch garden, especially the many topiary in the first and last garden, which made me think of the end of the 17th century, the time of William and Mary, but of course with a modern twist.
Deze privé tuin in Liessel bestaat uit maar liefst 10 tuinkamers, afgescheiden door Taxus of Carpinus hagen.
Er is een roze tuin, een Bordeaux rode tuin en een blauw/creme border, een tuin in geel/oranje en rood, een herfsttuin enz., maar de geknipte vormen trokken de meeste aandacht.
Hagen en vormen worden vijf keer per jaar gesnoeid, dus als je denkt klaar te zijn, kun je weer opnieuw beginnen.
This private garden in Liessel includes 10 garden rooms, sperated by Taxus or Carpinus hedges. There is a pink garden, a Bordeaux red garden, a blue/creme border, a hot garden, an autum garden and so on, but the clipped hedges and topiary drew most attention.
Hedges and topiary is clipped five times a year, so if you think you are ready you can start again.

De tweede tuin ligt in het noorden van Limburg, is 7500 m2 groot en aangelegd in Engelse landschapsstijl. Het gedeelte dicht bij huis is in vakken verdeeld door hagen en elk deel heeft haar eigen sfeer. Er zijn kleurrijke dubbele borders met een keur van vaste planten en rozen. Achter de laatste beukenhaag ligt de landschapstuin, waar we genieten van vooral rust en ruimte, maar ook de vele soorten bomen, heesters, de grote vijver met watervalletje zijn schitterend en een enorme Gunnera trekt de aandacht.

Een oude schuur, waar een verzameling boerenspullen uit grootouders tijd staat, is helemaal begroeid met rozen en clematissen.

Landschapsstijl /Landscape style
De laatste tuin van de eerste dag was een droomtuin in het glooiende landschap van zuidelijk Limburg.
The last garden of the first day was a dreamgarden in the rolling countryside of the south of Limburg.
We worden verwelkomd op de binnenplaats van de eeuwenoude boerderij, die ook een aantal subtropische potplanten en in figuren gesnoeide buxus bergt.
We are welcomed in the courtyard of the ancient farmhouse, which also holds a number of subtropical plants in pots and buxus topiary.

Dit is de oranjerie waar in de winter de potplanten van de binnenplaats gehuisvest worden.
In winter the plants of the courtyard are moved to the orangerie.
Potjes jam, chutneys en andere brouwseltjes vonden gretig aftrek bij de tuindames.
Jars with jam, chutneys and other concoctions found immense popularity among the ladies.
