Vanmorgen was ik in de tuin bezig en dacht ondertussen aan welke plant ik nog nauwelijks genoemd heb op mijn blog. En ja daar zag ik er een, de Lathyrus vernus, oftewel gewoon voorjaarslathyrus, een probleemloze vaste plant uit de vlinderbloemenfamilie. Hiervan heb ik al jaren twee prachtige pollen staan.Verderop in de tuin heb ik ook nog de zachtroze bloeiende Lathyrus vernus 'Alboroseus', deze bloeit ook. Even binnen mijn camera pakken om de bloei vast te leggen. De bloemen van deze voorjaarslathyrus zijn onwaarschijnlijk mooi, de kleur loopt over van paars naar echt blauw. Ze bloeien in april en mei.
De plant kan een hoogte bereiken van 20 tot 40 cm., heeft rechtopstaande stengels, die op een rizoom groeien en ietwat behaard zijn. De bladeren zijn geveerd met twee tot vier paar eivormige of lancetvormige deelblaadjes. De voorjaarslathyrus vormt trossen op lange stelen met drie tot zeven bloemen. Na de bloei vormen ze peulen van 4 tot 6 cm. die acht tot veertien zaden bevatten.
Deze zaden kunnen het hele jaar door gezaaid worden, maar het beste is in het vroege voorjaar. Ze bloeien echter, zoals de meeste vaste planten, pas het volgende jaar.
Standplaats : Matig beschaduwde plaatsen op vochthoudende, kalkrijke grond. Op onze veengrond gedijt ze echter ook goed. De soort komt voornamelijk voor in bosranden, bossen, struwelen en heggen. Het verspreidingsgebied strekt zich uit van Centraal-Europa tot Rusland.
This morning I was gardening and meanwhile I thought about a plant I've hardly mentioned on my blog. And yes, there I saw one, the Lathyrus vernus, spring vetchling or spring pea, a trouble free perennial in the genus Lathyrus. We have already many years two wonderful clumps of this one in the garden. Further down the garden I also have the cultivar 'Alboroseus' which is soft pink and white.
I go inside to get my camera to make some pictures. The flowers of the spring vetchling are incredibly beautiful, the colours are purple shading to real blue. The plant flowers early in the year in April and May.
This perennial plant has an upright stem without wings. The stem grows to 20 to 40 cm and is erect and nearly hairless. The leaves are alternate with short stalks and large, wide stipules. The leaf blades are pinnate with two to four pairs of ovate tapering leaflets with blunt tips. Lathyrus vernus forms long stems and three to ten purplisred to blue flowers. After flowering they form long brown pods up to 6 cm. in length containing eight to fourteen seeds.
You can sow the seeds any time, but early spring is the best time. However, they will flower only the next year, like most perennials.
They like a sunny spot with some shade and moist, limy soil. I have to say that on our peat soil they also thrive well. Lathyrus vernus is native to Central Europe and parts of northern Asia, its typical habitat is broad-leaved woodland and forest margins.
Ik ging naar mijn Lathyrus vernus 'Alboroseus' om een mooie foto te maken en vond dit .........., twee dagen geleden nog volop in bloei nu kale stelen en bijna geen blad meer. Wie zou dat nu gedaan hebben......... het konijn. Ik vrees dat het konijnenspray niet afdoende is om ze te verjagen.
I looked for my Lathyrus vernus 'Alboroseus' to make a nice picture but found this.........., two days ago in full flower, now bare stems and only a few leaves left. You can guess who has done this....... the rabbit. I fear that the rabbits spray is not adequate to deter them.
