Omdat er momenteel heel wat wit bloeit in de tuin, laat ik hier een gemakkelijk te kweken assortiment zien.
Lots of white flowers in the garden at this moment. That's why I show you some easy to grow white flowering plants.
De Lathyrussen raken langzaam maar zeker op z´n eind. Ik heb wekenlang om de paar dagen bloemen geknipt, soms een paar honderd per keer (ik tel altijd). Nu vind ik het welletjes en knip minder, de bloemen worden peulen die ik nog een paar weken laat rijpen voor de zaden voor volgend jaar en dan verdwijnt het erwtenstro naar de composthoop.
Sweetpeas are slowly coming to their end. Many weeks I have been cutting flowers every few days, sometimes a few hundred at a time (I always count). Now I think it's finished and cut less of them, the flowers form pods I leave ripening to collect seeds for next year and afterwards the pea straw disappears to the compostheap.
Verbascum chaixii 'Album'. Deze toorts heb ik al zo lang ik kan heugen in mijn tuin. Ooit een zakje zaad gezaaid en ze gaan nooit meer weg. Het is een kortlevende vaste plant maar zaait zich rijkelijk uit. Het grote pluspunt van de toorts is dat konijnen ze met rust laten.
Verbascum chaixii 'Album'. This torch I have already in my garden as long as I can remember. Once sown a packet of seed and you have them for ever. It is a short living perennial but sow themselves generously. The big advantage of the torch is that rabbits leave them alone.
Een mooie grijsbladige om te combineren met wit is de Artemisia ludoviciana 'Valerie Finnis'. Grijsbladige planten houden van zon, zo ook deze Artemisia die ongeveer 80 cm. hoog wordt. Ik laat het echter niet zo ver komen en knip ze vaak een stukje terug omdat ik de groengele bloemen niet echt mooi vind.
The Artemisia ludoviciana 'Valerie Finnis' is a pretty grey-leaved combining nicely with white flowers. Grey-leaved plants love sun, so does this Artemisia which grows to about 80 cm high. I do not let it get this far and cut them often a bit back to avoid the green yellow flowers which I don''t like so much.
The Nicotiana sylvestris, de hoge witte tabaksplant begint op sommig plekken voorzichtig te bloeien, nu nog een bescheiden, miezerig bloemetje maar ze groeien uit tot planten van soms wel 1,5 meter hoog, Het is een prima éénjarige, die heerlijk geurt en aantrekkelijk is voor vlinders. Als je zaad verzamelt heb je ze voor eeuwig en als het in de winter nauwelijks vriest en niet te rigoureus te werk gaat in de tuin, komen ze op de meest verrassende plekken vanzelf weer op.
The Nicotiana sylvestris, white tobaccoplant begins to flower carefully on some places in the garden, at this moment still a modest measly flower but within a few weeks the plant will grow to about 1,5 meter high. It's an excellent annual with a lovely fragrant and attrictive for butterflies. When you collect their seeds (they produce thousands) you have them for ever and after mild winters and you don't work too rigorous in your garden, they appear naturally on the most surprising spots.
De Buddleja davidii 'White Profusion' is bij uitstek een vlinderplant, geurt heerlijk en één van de beste voor onze vlinders. O ja, vandaag is het weer jaarlijkse vlindertelling, niet vergeten straks een rondje gaan doen.

Tanacethum parthenium, het moederkruid, ook zo'n gemakkelijk plant waar je nooit meer vanaf hoeft te komen. Wij noemen ze hier overigens hemdenknoopjes. Ze zijn leuk, ik gebruik ze vaak in boeketten. Aan de andere kant, de planten worden snel lelijk, krijgen meeldauw enz. Geen probleem, trek ze er gewoon uit, er verschijnen altijd weer nieuwe planten.
Tanacethum parthenium, feverfew, also a very easy plant that you never need to get rid of. Here we call them 'Shirt Buttons'. They are pretty, I use them often in bouquets. On the other side, the plants are quickly ugly, get mildew etc. No problem, pull them out, there appear always new ones.

De Persicaria polymorpha, een reus onder de Persicaria's. Goed voor de achtergrond van een border, maar groeit wel als een gek. De bloemtrossen zijn spectaculair, maar niet van het witste wit en doen me snel denken aan vuil wasgoed.

Witte hortensia's, zoals de cultivars 'Annabelle' en de 'Fireworks'. Binnenkort hoop ik een post geheel aan de verschillende hortensia's te wijden.

En wat te denken van deze wederik, de witte Lysimachia clethroides. De grap is dat hierboven de enige bloem gefotografeerd is die hiervan momenteel in de tuin staat. Het is een heerlijke snijbloem, weelderig groeiend en bloeiend. Zoals de meeste wederiken, doen ze het hier (te) goed in de tuin. Totdat ik tot mijn verbazing kennelijk toch een keer te drastisch te werk was gegaan met het inperken van deze toch prachtige plant. Er is niet veel meer van over, maar ze komen ongetwijfeld wel weer terug, tenzij de konijnen........
And how about above loosestrife, the white Lysimachia clethroides. Funny is that I photographed the only flower in the garden at this moment. It is a lovely cutting flower, lush growing and thriving. As most loosestrifes, they are growing (too) good in our garden. Until my astonishment I once acted too drastically curtailing this yet beautiful plant. There is not much left, but undoubtedly it will be back, unless the rabbits........
De nieuw gezaaide witte Cosmea 'Hummingbird' bloeit ook. Ik geloof toch dat ik de normale witte Cosmea mooier vind. De bijen genieten er in elk geval van.
The newly sown white Hummingbird Cosmeas are flowering too. I think I love the normal white ones more. Anyway the bees enjoy them.
Voor binnen heb ik één van de laatste bosjes Lathyrussen geplukt, de stelen worden ook steeds korter.
En wat vinden jullie van mijn leuke blauwe kannetje met deksel? Ik vond het in een curiosa winkeltje in Aylsham, Engeland dit voorjaar en ging overstag.
De kopjes heb ik al heel lang, kocht ik in Southampton toen ik jong was. Het kleine kommetje op de achtergrond komt bij mijn oma vandaan, allemaal schatten uit mijn verzameling blauw wit.
I picked one of the last bouquets of sweetpeas for on the table. The stems are growing shorter. And what do you think of my pretty blue jug with lid? I found it in a curiosity shop in Aylsham, England this spring and gave in. The cups I have already for a long time, I bought in Southampton when I was young. The small finger bowl on the background came from my grandmother, All treasures from my collection blue and white.
