De Viburnum opulus ´Roseum´ (sterilis) staat nu ook volop in bloei. In het begin van de bloei als de bloemen nog groenig zijn, vind ik deze op zijn mooist. Deze echte sneeuwbal is een steriele vorm van de Gelderse roos en draagt na de bloei dus ook niet de mooi knalrode maar giftige bessen. De bloeiwijze heeft alleen steriele lokbloemen en geen vruchtbare bloempjes in het midden.
Wel jammer dat het blad van deze sneeuwbal elk jaar weer opnieuw door zwarte bonen luis en mini rupsjes wordt opgevreten.
The Viburnum opulus ´Roseum´ (sterilis) is in full bloom at this moment. When starting to flower with greeny snowballs this shrub is on his best.
This real snowball is a sterile form of the Guelder rose and so unlike this one, it does not bear the poisenous red berries after flowering. The inflorescence consists of only big sterileflowers to attract insects, but no fertile flowers in the centre.
Unfortunately the leaves are being eaten every summer again by black been aphids and mini caterpillars.
Voor het weekend maakte ik in een ijsemmer een groot boeket van seringen, sneeuwbal en de zwarte weduwe (Geranium phaeum).
For weekend display in the house I made a grand bouquet of lilacs, snowballs and the black widow (Geranium phaeum) in an ice bucket.
